Keswick Community Partnership

Based on Derwentwater, Lakeland Rowing Club provides inclusive access to the lake, providing physical training based on the sport of rowing for the local community, being the only club in the northern area of the Lake District.
The sport improves core strength and cardiovascular fitness, whilst reducing stress by offering peaceful scenic exercise in a World Heritage Site. The annual subscriptions are low, there are low-cost beginner courses as well as a bursary system for those in financial difficulty.
All ages and genders are welcome, including an active junior section, catering for those aged 10-18. With rowing being a relatively low impact activity, many of our members continue to row into their 70s and 80s.
Efforts are made to accommodate those with disabilities, mental or physical. Opportunities exist for both competitive racing and recreational rowing. Lakeland RC prides itself on it's inclusivity, with rowers from complete beginners to World Champions rowing alongside one another, enjoying the sport and developing as they choose.
We also arrange regular social activities on and off the water. The club membership is over 125, drawn from an area from Penrith to Whitehaven. Additionally, families and the general community benefit from the club’s activities.
Every year the club runs the Derwentwater Head race attracting over 100 entries from round the country and giving visiting crews the opportunity to row on one of England's most scenic bodies of water. We also regularly host visiting rowers and occasional university club rowing camps.
