Keswick Museum was founded in 1873, moving to its present site on Fitz Park in 1897. Keswick Museum is a fully-accredited museum, and is managed by an independent charitable company.

Following a significant National Lottery-funded enhancement project in 2014, Keswick Museum continues to be a dynamic and forward-looking organisation run for the benefit of the community as well as visitors to the area.

Keswick Museum hosts various free and paid community events throughout the year, including crafting and storytelling hours for children, school visits and adult learning events. Tuesday’s Tonic, a regular social and creative session for people living with dementia (and their carers) and those experiencing loneliness, is also based at the museum.
