I was born in west Cumbria and spent my early years in Workington before my family moved to Keswick in the Lake District.

Before becoming the Labour MP for Penrith and Solway in July 2024, I worked in construction as an Electrical Contracts Manager. I have always been involved in politics, and have served as a councillor at Parish, District and Unitary Authority level.

I was the portfolio holder for Transformation and Governance, Adults and Community Health for Cumberland Council.

I have a degree in Financial Economics from Birkbeck, University of London.
