Battersby Hall Charity, established by Rev Battersby building on the bequest of the Rev Frederic Myers, for a library to 'encourage the spirit of self culture and to promote the combination of secular and spiritual instruction in this district'.

The Charity now owns the Moot Hall.

It uses its assets to support the education of those residing the Keswick & CA12 areas mostly through grant making [1] to schools and organisations that support the education of local people (education being broadly understood to include formal and inform education of all types) and [2] to those aged under 16 and [3] to those aged over 16.
